Μελέτη σκοπιμότητας μονάδας αεριοποίησης βιομάζας για την παραγωγή ενέργειας σε συνδυασμένο κύκλο BRAYTON-RANKINE. Η περίπτωση της Θεσσαλίας
Abstract
This thesis is written in order to present a preliminary feasibility study on a biomass gasification energy plant, using a combined Brayton-Rankine cycle for energy production. The plant is assumed to be located in Kilada, Thessaly. Nowadays, renewable energy sources gain constantly increasing share in energy production field. However, the last decades may be characterized by wasteful and irresponsible use of fossil fuels. As a result ,many environmental, economic and social problems have arisen. Some of them, which are deeply and severely effective, are the climate change, the energy dependence on politically unstable areas, the threat of fuel running out, as well as the human health degradation. So, renewable energy sources are the key, not to fully eliminate these problems ,but to solve and surface some of them. Biomass not only belongs to renewable energy sources category, but also is the most used of them. Some of its preferential properties are the ability of using the current energy facilities and networks. Moreover, it may help in residue and waste management. The current energy needs combined to the biomass advantages, led me to work on this study. The facility location was chosen based on the high biomass potential of the area and the particular biomass type (wheat straw) ,was chosen because of its low moisture and its chemical composition. In addition, wheat straw is abundant in the area and has low price, as well as there no difficulty in storage. Also, gasification was used, because there is no need of different facilities or networks from the existing ones. In addition, it is the proper technology in production of syngas using biomass with low moisture, like straw. In the study, there is a calculation part along with paramentric analysis, in order to help us decide if this energy facility is applicable and profitable. According to numeral results and the parametric analysis, this plant is a profitable investment with short repayment time, even though no subsidy is received. Also a large scale investment like this, will create new jobs in many relevant fields, and also will produce environmentally friendly energy, which will help in release from fossil fuels use.
