| dc.description.abstract | Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία έχει ως θέμα της το είδος του coming of age. Στόχος της είναι να συλλέξει θεωρητικά στοιχεία τα οποία διαμορφώνουν έναν ωφέλιμο οδηγό κατά την συγγραφή αφηγήσεων του είδους. Η διαδικασία συλλογής έγινε μέσω βιβλιογραφικής έρευνας. Σημαντικό ρόλο έπαιξε η ανάλυση δυο ταινιών του είδους, το Lady Bird (2017) και The Karate Kid (1984). Κατά την εργασία, ορίζεται η σημασία του είδους καθώς και οι υποκατηγορίες του με βάση την ηλικία του κεντρικού χαρακτήρα. Έπειτα, αναφέρονται και σχολιάζονται κάποιες από τις βασικότερες συμβάσεις του είδους και μια to do list για τα στοιχεία που πρέπει να έχει υπόψιν κάθε άτομο που ασχολείται με την συγγραφή του coming of age. Θίγεται επίσης η διαφοροποίηση των coming of age αφηγήσεων σε σχέση με τις teen movies. Παράλληλα, εξηγούνται τα χαρακτηριστικά του/της πρωταγωνιστή/πρωταγωνίστριας στο είδος και σημειώνεται η δυνατότητα χρήσης των πολεμικών τεχνών ως μέσο για την ενηλικίωση του χαρακτήρα. Όσων αφορά τις ταινίες αναφοράς, υπογραμμίζονται τα στοιχεία που τις εντάσσουν στο είδος. Αναφορικά με το Lady Bird αναλύεται περαιτέρω η σχέση μητέρας-κόρης, ενώ σχετικά με το The Karate Kid σημειώνεται ο τρόπος με τον οποίο χρησιμοποιείται η πολεμική τέχνη παράλληλα με την ενηλικίωση. Ο λόγος για τον οποίο αναλύονται τα συγκεκριμένα κεφάλαια για κάθε μία από τις παραπάνω αφηγήσεις είναι καθώς συνομιλούν με το σενάριο που συγγράφηκε κατά την παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία, με προσωρινό τίτλο Άλεξ.
The current thesis deals with the coming-of-age genre. Its goal is to collect theoretical elements which will shape a useful guide through the writing process of coming-of-age genre. The research was based on books and articles concerning the genre and it additionally includes an analysis of two coming-of-age films, Lady Bird (2017) and The Karate Kid (1984). Through the process there is a definition of the genre as well as a separation to its main subcategories based on the age of the main character. Furthermore, some of the main conventions of the genre are pointed out and explained, accompanied by a to-do-list for someone writing a coming-of-age. Additionally, the differentiation of the coming-of-age movies to the teen movies is outlined. The characteristics of the protagonist of the genre are highlighted along with the use of martial arts as means of entering adulthood. Considering the chosen films, they are analysed to ensure they include coming-of-age elements. When it comes to Lady Bird, the mother-daughter relationship is further analysed. When it comes to The Karate Kid, it is outlined how the martial art is used simultaneously with the process of coming of age. The reason behind these choices lies to the fact that the mother-daughter relationship and the martial arts in coming of age, converse with the screenplay written for the current thesis.
