Εμπειρική διερεύνηση και αποτύπωση των επιμορφωτικών αναγκών των εκπαιδευτικών της Πρωτοβάθμιας Εκπαίδευσης

Abstract

The present study, aims to investigate the in service training needs of primary education teachers (ΠE 70), as perceived and expressed by them. The survey was carried out in the last quarter of the school year 2015-2016 and it involved a total of ten teachers who worked in public schools in an urban area of Thessaloniki and in a rural area of Florina. Survey’s data was collected through semi-structured interviews. According to the research results teachers consider in service training necessary and declare that up to now it has contributed to their professional development. By in service training teachers expect to meet needs that are mainly related to their professional development such as enrichment of their cognitive load and update on developments related to their profession. Regarding the content of in service training, the majority of teachers preferred modern educational issues such as new teaching methods and new technologies. Most teachers surveyed also prefer long duration training which is conducted in person and where experiential training methods utilized. Regarding the improvement of in service training, teachers’ proposals include the investigation and recording of training needs, promotion of school focused training model, link between theory and practice and their own active participation. In their proposals, suggestions were also made about the educators - organizers, the time of training and financing. Moreover the study indicates that the different work area, urban and rural, does not greatly affect teachers’ training needs. Finally, according to teachers’ opinions, the economic crisis seems to have led to the creation of new training needs while limiting the training opportunities.
